Hey guys, need some good advice here please.
So my niece currently has visitors status with a visitors record that expires Nov 12/2022.
She wants to study paralegal at durham college so she applied for this and also applied for a student permit. She received a conditional offer (must complete level 4 english at durham) for this January 2023. She is about to complete level 4 english at the end of November.
She received a letter of approval for a student visa in the mail last summer, so she mailed her passport to IRCC and she got her passport back with student visa (expires December 31 /2022) on it 2 weeks later.
Once we got her passport back we contacted her lawyer and she said we were suppose to receive a letter along with the passport, but she did not, she only received her passport with her visa. So she advised us to go to the US Canada borders with her original letter of student Visa approval and flag pole there to get her student permit. We wasted gas and about 3 hours waiting there just so the officer could tell her to come back after she finished her English course.
Now I do not have much confidence in this lawyer which is why I am turning to this forum for help.
1. What would be her next steps in order to obtain her study permit?
2. Was she suppose to receive a letter of approval from Canada for study permit at this time? If not will she receive one?
3. Should she extend her visitors record before it expires?
Please advise, thank you so much.
