Hi! I am preparing my own guide for arriving. Albeit a little early, it’s never too late to start your preparations.

I have a question. What exactly are the conditions on your study permit that allow you to work on or off campus? I want to make sure that my permit is correct. Since I applied on or before Oct 7th, I am eligible to work without any cap on hours. Now I do not intend to work anymore than 20 hours but I want to have the option open. Is there something along this line mentioned in the permit?

Work permission is not an automatic condition you get. You just have the possibility of having a work permission. Canada border agency will decide when you are in Canada duty in a Canadian airport. They generally 99% dont bother and write the note (can work 20 hour per week off campus, and full time in campus) to below of your study permit paper. But if they dont see it suitable they may not write that note below your study permit, even if you go to a designated learning institute (DLI). Also, since november 2022, Canada government gave a temporary permission (1 year I think) to students to work full time out of campus, too, due to the labor shortage. To summarize, you will have your work permission written under your study permit when you are in the airport border service of Canada.
