Study gap with work experience

Hello folks!

I've completed my diploma in mechanical engineering in 2010 and pursuing rich engineering career since then.
I am planning to apply for B.Tech. in Canada for Sept. intake. I am married and my wife is Bachelor in Computer Application with one year of experience.
I've heard its pretty arduous to get admission with more than 2 years of gap. Can anybody throw some light on what exactly are the norms??
What can I do??
Any reference or useful info/link??

Gaps are not a problem and even course mismatch. I graduated BS in Computer Engineering in 2002. Had different career path since I graduated. I applied for Music Industry Arts with Sound Engineering courses at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, which is related to my business that I opened since 2012 - a sound system rental business wherein I also work as a sound technician.

I received passport request on June 15, POE Introduction letter yesterday, and hopefully will receive my passport with visa by next week.

Whatever the situation is, as long as you can explain everything and convince the VO that you are a genuine student and will come back to your home country after your studies in Canada, you will have your study permit application approved.

Hi Vijay,

Good to see a mechanical engineer applying for canada. I am also a mechanical engineer from india with 3yrs of work exp. i have applied for my masters in canada, waiting for my application to be processed. With regard to study gap, it is nothing to worry as you have work experience and you were not idle. You will have to justify the gap was because you were working in your Statement of purpose (sop) which you should submit with your application. There is no need for any recommendation letters from any professors for bachelors degree(needed for masters).

you will have to give the employment details while you apply for a student permit visa. During this time CiC will ask you for documented proof of your employment that is joining letter, relieving letter(if you changed companies) and experience letter from current employer. No university will ask these docs for accepting your application or offering you an admission.

One more additional info, since you are married, if you wish to take your spouse to canada, you will have to apply for their work permit as well. here are some links that can help.
