Student Visa Extension Delay (4 months!)

Hi,

I'm a PhD student at Simon Fraser University. After extending my study permit, I applied to extend my Visa on Oct 15 2017. My case has gone for background check, and it is still being processed (more that 4 months). Is anyone in a similar situation? What can I do?

I asked my friends, in previous years background checks were taking less than 2 months.
