Student separating from husband

I'm really hoping I can get some advice.

My husband and I are separating. We still live together, but the situation is becoming horrendous, with kids involved, we need to remedy the situation asap

My questions are...
I am on a student permit, my ex has on open work permit. Can we live apart? Do we need to remain married in order to renew our visas? (We both want to stay)

You can renew your study permit.

If you separate, your husband will no longer qualify for an open work permit. If he wants to remain in Canada and work, he'll need to secure a full time job offer in Canada from a Canadian employer along with an approved LMIA so that he can apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer.
