I need some assistance but I must first give a brief background. I am embarking upon the journey to become a Barrister and Solicitor in Alberta. I am currently in the process of being accepted into the University of Alberta for the Internationally Trained Lawyers Program. This program starts in September 2016 and ends the following April 2017 whereby I am able to apply for my Certificate of Qualification from the NCA in Canada. Subsequent to this I would then have to being the Lawyer Licensing process which is approximately one year in Alberta whereby you must article with a an attorney practising for five or more years. My question is, will a student permit be granted for the University of Alberta period or both ? Generally, how long are student permits given more than two years, three etc??
