Student Claiming Asylum

Hi everyone,

I arrived to Canada on study visa and planning to claim asylum very soon. I have a question for those who have already gone through the process. Once a claim is accepted, will the tuition fee drop from international to domestic? I have already gone through a background check when I applied for my visa, will they still perform a background check in that case?

I'd really appreciate it if you could answer and don't ignore it.

Yes once a claim is accepted you will pay domestic fees. The processing time is currently close to 2years. Study permits are also often cancelled once you claim asylum. The process is taking 1-2 year at the moment so you will likely have to use your funds to pay for lawyers not school. Yes another background check will be done. Would imagine the one for a refugee claim is more in depth than for a student visa,
