Still Waiting for IRB Hearing – When Do They Usually Call? (BC)

Hi everyone,

I submitted my refugee claim in September 2024 and completed my interview the same month. It’s now been over a year (13 months) and I haven’t received a hearing date yet.

I’m just wondering that for others in BC, how long did it take to get your IRB hearing scheduled? Any idea if timelines are speeding up?

According to IRCC’s current processing timelines for Refugee and Protected Person applications, since you submitted your claim in November 2024, the estimated processing period is approximately 50 months. However, in some cases, decisions may be issued sooner depending on individual circumstances.

Thanks for the info I applied in September actually! Just to clarify the 50-month timeline applies to the PR application after someone is approved as a protected person, not the actual IRB hearing.

I’m still waiting for my hearing date, and I understand that part usually takes 12–24 months depending on the case.

It varies from case to case . Realistically the wait times are longer than 24 months.My case i submitted my case in November 2022 but had my hearing in April 2025.All the best!

There is a huge backlog. Many will be waiting yrs for a hearing.
