So my husband is filling out his forms for his immigration and part of it asks about having lived in other countries. We were very young and quite stupid in our ways when we started our relationship and he ended up coming to Canada for a visit and not leaving. Do any of you have any experience in this?

If your husband is in Canada without status, he MUST disclose this in the application.

Being without status may not make him ineligible to apply for PR, but not disclosing this to CIC will have a devastating impact on his application.

The Inland Guide was updated last September and now states that a person must have legal status if they wish to apply.
This is the only place where that is mentioned, as a person without status has been eligible to apply for PR since February 2005.

This would seem to imply that something has changed, but so far, nobody here has been able to find out for sure.

He should submit an application ASAP and hope for the best.

Good luck!

I should clarify, we realized we were being dumb and he went back to the states January 2014.

It shouldn't be a problem. Just be honest about his history and indicate "no status" for this portion of his stay in Canada.
