Hello,

we had a baby girl in Calgary,AB 70 days ago, me and my wife are the Permanent resident of Canada, I wanted to know what is the status of my girl.

we have been in Canada for 6 months now and also we were rejected the child benefit CCTB/UCTB application.

I am not too sure if my baby will get a Canadian citizenship if yes , will the CCTB AND UCTB application that was rejected affect her status or it has nothing to do with the status.
please help
THANK YOU.

Hello
Your child being born in canada is Canadian citizen by birth - you need the birth certificate to prove this and apply for proof of citizenship - takes sometime.
Your child benefit has nothing to do with her status in Canada....I am not sure why it was rejected but it could be because you have been in canada only for 6 months and I am guessing this will be the first time you will be filing taxes.
Rejection of child benefit will not affect anything.

Your child has citizenship but you do not have to apply for a citizenship certificate for her because she was born in Canada. You should go ahead and apply for her Canadian passport.

Why was your child tax benefit application denied? As a PR who is living in Canada with your child, you are eligible. Even if you have not filed taxes before, they will accept proof of income from outside Canada instead.

Thank you for the reply. very helpful to me.

just curious why don't I apply for a citizenship certificate for her and rather apply for her passport , can you please tell why is that so ?

THANKING YOU.

Because she was born in Canada, she already has proof of citizenship which is her birth certificate. If you wish to apply for a citizenship certificate for her, you can but I guarantee you that most Canadian parents do not apply for citizenship certificates for their children.
