Statement of Purpose
Why Master of Engineering in Internetworking:
There are both professional and personal reasons to choose Master of Engineering in Internetworking.
Professionally internetworking has a great scope in Pakistan. IT field is booming here. Both public and private sectors are incorporating computing technology more and more in their day to day activities thus creating new job opportunities in the field of internetworking. This growth rate is expected to be there for a long time.
Similarly internetworking is in great demand in the Middle East. I have many family members including my father who work in the region so I will be able to use my internetworking skills in this region of the world as well.
Currently I am working as network support engineer. Our organization is launching many upcoming projects. So to be better prepared I intend to develop and build on my current networking concepts to avail these opportunities. My employer has already pledged to offer me a higher position if I successfully complete the program.
As far as personal reasons are concerned I would say internetworking is my passion and hobby. My family friends were in computer networking business and ever since my university days, I am actively involved in it.
In addition to my computer science degree, I have got CCNA certification. MEng internetworking will further enhance and polish my skills by providing broader practical and theoretical knowledge.
Why Canada:
I had two choices and these were Canada and Sweden. Even I was granted study permit for Sweden but I changed my mind after consultation with my professors and seniors. I learnt that educational facilities and standards are like those of US while fees are lower. Also, being multicultural and having a large Asian community, Canada would feel more like a home. Last but not the least is her picturesque landscape which is irresistible.
Why Dalhousie University:
Dalhousie offers education that provides the knowledge and skills needed for success. Here research is given more emphasis along with hands on activities. This internetworking program also provides training for professional and expert industry level certifications in Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel, Nortel and other vendors in the world of internetworking which is a plus.
Dalhousie has been ranked in the top 200 universities in the world. In almost its 200 years history, Dalhousie consistently ranks as one of the top Canadian institutions in The Scientist's “Best Places to Work in Academia.” Dalhousie also ranks highly in The Scientist's list of the best non-commercial scientific institutes to work at in Canada, winning the category outright in 2006.
These unique features of the university and MEng internetworking will enable me to become a better professional in the field of computer networking.
