HELLO!

My name is Anita. I am from the UK and I am living in Canada with my common-law partner. We are in the process of gathering the relevant documents and will be applying within the next couple of months. If you're in the same situation... join this thread and maybe we can be of some support to each other!

Hi there!

Me and my SO are also going to be applying for CL in 2 short months! We have split the time living in both his country and mine (he has a multiple entry visa to Canada!) Great thread to start! What kind of documents have you two come up with to prove you are common law?

One of the hardest things for us is providing our personal history. We are 31 and 36. We need to provide info on the last ten years. Both of us have been travelling and working all over the world. I don't remember or have evidence of all of my addresses. My partner is Canadian and he hasn't filed taxes in about 5 years because he has not been working. Right now, we are trying to get our personal history together so for us, that is step one. Also, he is divorced so we need to get all that divorce stuff too. It's hard! What are you finding challenging?

Your partner (the Canadian) does not need to provide his personal history for the last 10 years. Only you.

According to this form:IMM5669E The principal applicant, his or her spouse or common law partner must complete their own copy of this form. My common law partner is Canadian and is my sponsor. So he does not have to fill this form out? Really! That would be so much easier!

i hope to apply via the common law category. we are just trying to determine if we have enough proof. we dont have any joint bank accounts, tenancy agreements etc but we have been together for the past 12 years and have 2 children together.

this doesn't apply to spouses and partners that are sponsors. No he doesn't have to fill that out.

Thanks for your help! I just checked the document checklist and looks like you're right! Awesome!

I am trying to get a "table of contents" for the supporting documents. Would anyone like to share how they are organizing their supporting documents to compare?

Count me in :D We are applying end of april, outland via Mexico City.
