Greetings to all,

I am a US citizen just married to a Canadian Permanent Resident. I want to live and work in Canada to be with my wife. There are so many questions about this process. I guess I will just fire away hoping for some good feedback from the experts out there.

1. Can I submit our applications without police clearances? I just applied for the FBI check and heard it can take 3-4 months and i have applications to Australia for clearances there as well.

2. Should I do the medical before or after applying? . I have read so many conflicting opinions about this too.

3. What is the average time start to finish for most people out there including waiting for the clearances?

4. Am I authorized to work as soon as I am granted a PR visa or do I have to wait for a card after I have arrived in Canada?

5. Is the marriage license included in the application?

I would appreciate info on all or any of these topics and good luck to all future immigrants out there

Regards

1) Yes - you can submit them laer.
2) Best to complete the medical before (that's what the instructions ask for).
3) Look for the FBI thread. This will give you the best indication of how long people are waiting to receive their clearances.
4) You can work as soon as you have a SIN. You can apply for a SIN the first day you arrive (you don't need your PR card).
5) You should include the marriage certificate.

Sylla,
