Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
I am single and will be moving alone in Canada as permanent resident. Looking forward to Toronto. Planning to look for work on the second week or so. Any advice for noobs like me? Also, I haven't decided yet which province to live. I just thought of Ontario because I assume that there are many jobs there. I normally work in the construction industry but since I am new in Canada, I won't be expecting so much in my first year. Willing to do survival jobs but I hope I can get back to my profession as much as possible.

Do you plan to get your own flat or plan on sharing accommodation.

I am planning to rent my own flat but will be taking an airbnb for the first month while familiarizing myself with the place and mode of transportation. Also will be looking for job.

If you already know that you will be able o get legal status in Canada, I would suggest you start looking for a job before you arrive. If you already know when you are landing especially, get started.

Depending on the job you need, there are jobs everywhere. If weather is a concern, Vancouver is rainy but not that cold. Halifax is less rainy, but winters start getting cold. It is much smaller, but I am sure you will be able to find some job in Halifax as well.

If you have a choice of where you can live, every city and province has it's own charms and problems. I would suggest a lot more research focusing on the things that are important to you. Do you like big or small city. Weather. Outdoors or not. Cost of living. Loads of questions that will vary widely depending on your personal preferences

Good luck.

The reason I asked is because being single & renting own flat, you will spend major portion of your salary on rent.

As long as you work fulltime then you will break even & you don't have to worry but it will be hand to mouth.

Below is breakdown for Calgary,Alberta.

I think all cities in Canada will be same (% of salary spent on rent) just the rent & minimum wage will change.

Also browse for jobs to get an idea even before you land. (Even after landing major part of your job searching will be through internet)

Thank you. I have a question. Is it possible to rent just a room? Becauase I asked someone in Manitoba and he told me that sharing an entire flat is common only for friends and families.

What your friend has told is practical as it would be easier to share flat with friends and family. Lets say 2 of friends search together for flat & split the rent.
But people do sub-let and/or share their flats to others/strangers for rent.
Also sometimes basements are cheaper and may come with separate entrances.

Also you can rent a flat yourself & then share/sublet it with another tenant.

The idea is to split the rent & if somebody doesn't like to live alone.

But as always the negative is dangers of sharing with a stranger

Look for rooms for rent in Craigslist and Kijiji.

Well, my situation is the same as yours. I am a Civil Engineer by profession, planning to land in July in Toronto (though my landing destination is Vancouver). Just like yourself, I will be flying alone to Canada. I don't even have any relative there.
I suggest that you register yourself at planningforcanada.com. Its a funded program by the Govt. of Canada, providing free pre-arrival services to individuals who have been issued instructions for Medicals. They organize various webinars, that will give you a boost of confidence. They also have connections with different employers in Canada and can refer you to one of them.
