Hello Pros,

After I graduated from university (in Canada), I started working full time on my off-campus work permit (it allows full time work in summer).
My question is:

Is it ok if the 1 year requirement for CEC is fulfilled with (almost 2 months on off-campus work permit) and the rest on the open work permit (Worker status)?

Please advise asap if possible. Thanks in advance!

It should be, just include a written explanation about starting to work after graduation while waiting for the PGWP, and provide proof of your graduation date (should be on your diploma and/or transcript). This is not about proving your education in Canada, it's about proving that you were no longer a full-time student when you started working.

Are you sure?

Any other views on that?
Would you be able to tell me a link that says that its ok to work OFFICIALLY on a full time job after graduation on off-campus work permit (until PGWP arrives)?

There is something called Bridging Work Permit status (I can't remember exactly) which allow students with off-campus work permit to work full-time while waiting for the approval of PGWP. I graduated about 3 years ago and things might have changed. Why don't you ask your international student guidance counsellor, they were the ones who helped me with a graduation verification letter, which is required when applying for PGWP?

Hmm... would the CIC webpage on off-campus work permits suffice?

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/students/work-off-campus.asp
"Maximum working hours permited
Students eligible to work under R186(v) can work up to 20 hours per week during their regular academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks (e.g., winter/summer holidays, reading week) and during the transition period to a post-graduation work permit (if applicable)."[/color]

As for the eligibility of that interim period for CEC - it doesn't exist. Doesn't exist. CIC does not seem to be able to spell this out, and continues to provide ambiguous guidance.

For example, in the OP25A - http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/RESOURCES/manuals/op/op25A-eng.pdf
For a student who had graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution, only work experience gained after graduation will count towards meeting the work experience requirement (e.g., post-graduate work permit).

Some people interpret that as saying any authorized work after graduation will count (as I do), some people interpret that as saying that it will only count on the PGWP. ("e.g." means, "for example," so to me that does not exclude other options.) VOs also appear to interpret that in various ways, so the conservative better-to-be-safe-than-sorry approach would be to not count it. But not everyone has that option.
