Hey guys,

I have most of my forms stapled together, however today I read on this forum that it's not a good idea to use staples. Where I'm currently at, there isn't access to a printer all the time, and I haven't got a staple remover.

So I guess I have two questions.

a) Will my application be rejected if I send in stapled forms
b) if I carefully, with a knife or something, remove the staples and then rebind them with paper clips, will that be odd to the immigration officer and give them a reason to deny?
c)(okay I lied, 3 questions) The notarized Proof of Studies translations that I got were stapled. The notary stapled the corner and then covered it with a white corner tape. I think that's so you can tell if it's been tampered with. Will that be a problem as well?

Thanks for your help!

a) No.
b) No. Paper clips are more "user friendly" but not mandatory.
c) No. It's an anti-tamper device. Don't attempt to modify it.

It doesn't say any where in CIC guides about not using "Staples". I have searched again ad again.

Forms should not be stapled nor paper clipped and documentation should be organized and placed in clear labelled seperate envelopes all nice and well presented for them. They scan the forms and documents on their computer systems hence they say no staples.
I'd be extremely interested in the official citation for this comment, especially as it's not actually required... What they actually do is remove all packaging, staples and clips, reorder the application to suit their requirements, drill a hole in one corner and rebind them.

I don't think it is explicitly stated anywhere publicly. But there have been people who say they have some insider information and know that CIC officers who review the documentation have to scan everything and that staples are a pain in the butt for them. I've seen this comment enough from different people that there is likely some truth to this.

Wait so...it's just an inconvenience for them? I mean unless having staples is going to be a reason for rejecting or delaying the application process, there's no real reason to go through and de-staple everything... I think. Can't find any official statement online.

My forms had a variety of staples, clips, spring fasteners - no problem - no complaints from CIC.

It's their job to pour over information from a variety of sources from all over the world - stone tablets will likely be rejected :-X

Staples can't be reason for rejection as its not a noncompliance issue. I used these for my PR application and have used again for my wife's application.

Nice!!! hehehehe ;D

I'm pretty sure I saw on the CIC website once that they PREFER you not use staples, but I don't remember where I saw it. In any case, I'm also pretty sure I've seen a couple of people in here say they used staples and there were no negative consequences to their application. I would think since they are scanning the pages, it would be easier on them to not have to deal with removing them.

Its the part time students job to pull the staples and fasteners out. ;)
