Hi all,

I know someone who applied for PR last year. This month they have received letter from CIC regarding inadmissibility because they think that Police in Pakistan is involved in crimes against humanity. CIC has given 30 days to make any representations in this regard.

I have done some research today and seems like the chances of getting PR for them are negligible. Is it true? Has someone gone through this, or know some foreign national who worked in Police/Military and got permanent residency in Canada?

Having worked for the police/military doesn't mean you are always inadmissible and plenty of foreign nationals who have worked for the police/military have gotten PR. However in your friends case CIC obviously has very serious concerns. To be approved, your friend will have to prove he had no involvement in and no knowledge of the crimes against humanity. Probably a very good time to hire a good immigration lawyer to respond to CIC.

Hi there,

Thanks for your input. They have hired a consultant from the beginning of the process - do you think consultant can help with this, or they will need a specialized lawyer?

A consultant will not be able to address the very serious legal issues in this case. As said above, they really should hire an experienced immigration lawyer.

Agreed. You need a very experienced (and probably expensive) Canadian immigration lawyer.
