while i am still awaiting for my visa etc, just wanted to check if its ok to land at any part of Canada ? Are there any restrictions of landing in Montreal completing the landing formalities and then proceeding to Toronto. Was planning of doing so because of the suitable flights to Montreal.

No problem at all. If the BSA ask you should show your domestic connection flight ticket. Please ensure you should have a two hour gap between the arrival and departure at Montreal. That should be necessary for completing your immigration formalities and transferring your checked baggage to domestic departure counter.
