My common law partner is back in Japan awaiting her permanent residency to go through. We haven't seen each other for a year now, so we really miss each other. I was wondering if there would be a problem if she came to visit me. She is planning to stay the duration of a visiting visa which i believe is 6 months. I've heard that people could be turned away cause of their duration so i was a little worried. Any insight you can give me would be much appreciated.

She's from a visa exempt country. She shouldn't have a problem as long as she has a return ticket within the six months and says that she is just coming to visit.

Before the 6 months are up, she can also apply for a visitor status extension to get another 6 or 12 months added on to remain in Canada.

Also when she first arrives in Canada, she should change her address to your Canadian address. Then if the PR is approved while she's here, they will mail the COPR directly to Canada where she could do the PR landing.

If its from a country where she needs a visa to come then don't bother wasting the money. Go visit her because I ran into the same issue. As long as she has a reason to stay here example you would be good reason and she has no proof that she would go back they will Deni her a visa. U can try but I was told straight up my husband would not get one because he has me to stay here
