Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi guys, need some advice here.

My boy friend has a PGWP and the permit is expiring in 3 months. He is still in the express entry pool and it seems like there are no chances of getting an ITA.

I recently got my PR and I am thinking of getting married and sponsoring him. Now the issues are :

- we do not have time to go back home and perform all the religious ceremonies. we want to get married here and perform a civil ceremony.
- because he has only 3 months left on his WP, is it a good idea to get married now.
- how long will the Mississauga office take to approve the file.
- are we eligible to get an open WP for him after his current permit expires.

Any help would be appreciated. I am worried about the processing of the application and questions we might face. :(

Getting married is the first step, so the sooner you do that, the sooner you can submit the applications.

He will be eligible for the OWP if he submits an Inland application...which may not really be the best choice. Depending on his country of origin, he might find substantially faster processing times if he submits an Outland application, which can be submitted from within Canada. The OWP is not available for an Outland applicant. Inland applicants usually wait ~ 2 years before they are approved, but CIC has been picking up the pace a bit. The Liberals have promised to reduce the processing times, but...your guess is as good as mine as to what that means and, more importantly, when that will happen.

Inland applicants, that have legal status, usually receive the Open Work Permit ~ 4 months after CIC receives the OWP and Inland application. There's no way that he would received the OWP before his current PGWP expires, which means that he would need to stop working, temporarily.

Thanks Ponga.

During that time, will he be under implied status ?

Do you know how long does Mississauga office take to approve the application ?

We currently live in Toronto, but are thinking of moving out to some other province. I guess that should not make any difference to the application.

The pilot project for OWP is expiring mid of December. Not sure if it will be renewed.

Are there any other current options that will ensure that he can stay with me in Canada.

1. Yes, as long as neither the OWP or the Inland application is returned, due to an error on your/his part. Even if it is, as long as it it received [again] by CIC before his PGWP expires, he would have Implied Status as a visitor.

2. Inland still takes a ridiculously lonnnng time (close to 2 years).

3. No difference, as long as you don't move to Quebec.

4. I suspect that it will be renewed again, as it was last December.
