Hi All ,

In final stages of putting together our application - just spent the last two days going through everything and piecing it together and tabbing everything etc. My husbands portion of the application : ie: sponsored spouse portion - is huge - it must be about 400 pages with everything - and my portion - is just the three main forms and the required option C printout, my proof of employment, and a photocopy of my PR card.... is this normal? am i missing something??

I did notice in the sponsor questionnaire form (IMM 5540) at the end of the form it asks for any additional details of relationship that I believe would help prove my relationship is genuine and continuing... I honestly dont know what to say that wouldnt be a repeat of everything in my husbands portion of the application which is so detailed and plentiful??

When processing the sponsor portion - do they look at the spouse portion of the application aswell( or is it completely separate?) - ie. the proof of relationship?? or do I repeat myself completely in an essay-type letter??? What did everyone else do for this?

thank you!
L

Think of it as the following:

1. sponsor forms and ID documents;
2. sponsored applicant's forms and documents; and
3. proof of relationship, which can include letters from both of you detailing how you think your relationship is genuine and continuing.

Stage one (sponsor eligibility) does not look at the relationship proof at all, only stage two processing. In stage one, CIC will (supposedly) check to make sure that the sponsored spouse's forms are there.

Not to worry, my (sponsor) portion was not only TINY but as I put it on a post yesterday I think, it was 'anorexic', at least compared with what I read about on this forum only AFTER our application had been submitted.

Neither of us submitted a "separate piece paper to provide any additional details . . . " etc. etc. We submitted one or two sentence answers on the required forms, about 60 photos, 3 greeting cards or less, a print-out of the travel arrangements for our little honeymoon, and now that I think about it perhaps also a sample wedding invitation. That's it! It all fit into a business sized envelope.

No, you don't need to repeat yourself in both sections. Basically for the sponsor portion (IMM5540) they are just checking for the bare basics, NOT the full out relationship proofs and evidences. The stage 1 sponsorship approval is to check all the required forms are there and signed properly, and then to judge the sponsor's ability to sponsor. The outland visa office will be the ones to open all your proofs.

So basically all the relationship evidence you have will go with the applicant's IMM5490 form. If the stage 1 people really want to they can look at your proofs here also, but i don't think they ever really need to.

If it helps, here's how our (common-law) outland application was organized into 3 basic sections:
