Hi Everyone,

I am Canadian born citizen, my wife from the UK. CICreceived our application in July 2012, we now have sent the letter and paper to Quebec for undertaking. Once we receive these, we will need to send back to CIC.

...But we just found out we are pregant!

And yes there is a 3 month waiting for health insurance in Quebec. So obvioulsy we won't have it in time for THE day.

Questions:
1- Will the fact that my wife is pregnant affect in any way the delay for processing the application?
2- Will the fact that I am Canadian help covering the cost of delivery?
3- Any ways to speed up things?

We obviously did not know about the 3 months period...

Any comment or help?

Thanks

You did not mention whether your wife is currently in UK or both you are in Canada as your wife is living with you on visitor status.

However, the pregnancy will neither cause any delay for the process of the sponsorship application nor speed up the process by any means.

As you are Canadian Citizen, the baby born outside Canada be a Citizen due to having a Canadian father. Similarly, if your wife is in Canada and the baby is born in Canada, the baby will be born a Citizen. Either way, you should inform CIC about the pregnancy preferably with a certification of family doctor, once the pregnancy is confirmed.

As per my knowledge, the minimum hospital charges for child birth ( not C SECTION ) comes between CAD 10,000.00 to 12,000.00 in Canada. You may check with your nearest maternity hospital, whether she could get free treatment during the three months waiting period in case of emergency.

The pregnancy wont speed up or delay anything - you can submit it as extra proof of your relationship (doctor's letter or something) but that's about it.

Because you are a CAN citizen, the child will be Canadian regardless of where it's born. If it's born here and your wife is in Canada, you will have to pay the full cost of delivery. I suggest your wife and you deliver in UK if she has health care there still. If not, you may want to consider mid-wifes for cheaper delivery. There is no free delivery given to spouses of Canadians who are not yet PR in Canada.

Congrats and good luck!
