Hello Members,

May I request you (anyone please) to provide some information on- whether I can apply a PR application for spouse while she is a student? I am fortunate to be accepted as a PR for which I am grateful. However, my concern is how to proceed with my wife's PR application. I have applied for her admission to some universities and while she want to finish her education, I wanted to gather right information on this issue.

This is my first request on this forum and I would be grateful to all for your comments and suggestions. Look forward to your experience.

Thank you
GT

Are you already a PR? If so, you can sponsor your wife through the family sponsorship stream.

See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

If you sponsor your wife as a PR, her fees will reduce.

Thank You evryone for your response.

However I am Still residing outside Canada, I want to proceed with my wife's PR application outside Canada. Is there a possibility ?

If you are outside Canada, you cant sponsor your wife. You will have to go to Canada and live apart. Another option is for your wife to apply for PR on her own accord if she qualifies.

XpressEntry-

Thank you so much for the response. I apologize for not stating clearly my situation.

My Situation- I am located in California and I intend to move to Canada sometime in June. My wife, who is my dependent here, want to accompany me. I understand to apply her PR, I must be in Canada- but can I apply her PR while she is a student pursuing a master's program?

Also, I intend to apply Open work permit for her, since it is an option along with the PR application. I have not come across someone with same situation. So, I am seeking your views on this.

Thank you again,
GT

LOL, I guess it would never occur to us that being a student would be a reason to exclude someone from spousal sponsorship. So I guess the answer is yes, you can apply - being a student would not prevent you/her from applying (unless she does to maintain her student status according to regulations). But it's another question if she is able to get the study permit.

If you post in the family class forum, you will find more people in your situation. (This is the skilled workers forum).
