I am hoping to get some inputs here on my case. I am a Canadian permanent resident and got my PR in Oct 2016. I left Canada 2 months after I got my PR. I was living in Canada for 4 years before that. I know I have until Oct of 2019 to return to Canada and live 2 years continuously to maintain my PR status. My spouse has filed her Individual PR application through Express entry last month as she had enough points on her own. We are expecting her PR to come in 4-5 months. I want to stay out of Canada for another one year due to some professional commitments and want to know if I can surrender my current PR (PR card valid till Dec 2021) and add myself to my spouse's PR application? Would I be able to get PR with her? We have been married for a year and have all the paperwork. I and my spouse want to return to canada in Nov 2020 and I would like to reset my time away from Canada. Is this a good strategy? I will really appreciate your responses.

This is really an economic immigration question rather than family class. Recommend you ask in the Express Entry section of the forum if you need more information than the below.

You can be added to the application but need to officially renounce your PR status first. This can take some time to process to recommend you do now. You'll need to go through the medical and PCC processes again. Adding you to her application will likely add approximately four months to the overall processing time for her application.

Thank you so much for the response. I did try to post this in express entry forum but it got deleted citing double post reason.

If I don't renounce my status and try to return to Canada in oct 2020 (after spending 4 years outside), with my PR spouse (she will get it by then), would I be denied entry and served deportation order?

Also, I have about 30k Canada federal student loan, would they allow me to stay in Canada to repay it or would they revoke my status and tell me to leave Canada? What would happen to the student loan then?
