Hi!

We got our ITA and we were readying up documents to provide. However, there are some documents pertaining to my spouse and child are currently unavailable (or) will take longer to obtain than the ITA cutoff. As a primary applicant, should I go ahead and get the PR approved and then subsequently add my spouse and child as dependents?

As I have read in Canada's website, I can only "sponsor" them once the PR is approved.

Has anyone have had a similar problem? How easy/difficult is to sponsor my spouse and child post PR approval?

Grateful if you could provide some insights. Thanks!

What's missing? Regardless of whether they are accompanying or non-accompanying, there are still a number of documents you need to provide for them as part of your application.

I understand that I will need to provide documents, but how easy/difficult is to "sponsor"? Like would it take longer for them to get PR if I went the sponsor route? What additional documents will I have to provide? Has anyone had the same experience?

It will take approximately a year to sponsor them for PR if you want until after you yourself are a PR and then sponsor them through family class. The list of documents and forms you will need to provide are on the IRCC web site.

As a PR, you can only sponsor your family members if you are living in Canada. It's quite possible your spouse and child will not be approved for a TRV to come and visit you during this time. So one of the big downsides of waiting until later is that you may need to live separately from them for the better part of a year.
