Hi Friends,

Is the IELTS score of the spouse must if she is applying as a secondary applicant. Can I apply without my spouse taking IELTS if I am not planning to use the points from her language ability for my application?

If you don’t want your spouse’s education or language to count for score, you select her as unaccompanying. If selected and receive COPR, you go to Canada without her and then when you land you sponsor her. Process takes about a year after landing.

Thanks for your reply. I am working in Canada for the last 1 yrs on a WP. Will that change anything?

Do you have to be in Canada to apply for your wife? What if someone lands there and get there PR and return to their home country within one month. Can they apply for their partner while they are still out?

No. You must be living in Canada.

Thanks for the prompt response. Do you know the average application times? I know max is one year but is that what I should expect or normally it would take few months.

My points without spouse are 463 while even if my wife takes ilets we would only reach to 450-453. So I am in two minds what should I do.

Also, is there a waiting time before I can apply for my wife or I can apply as soon as I land in Canada?
