Hey guys!
You were so helpful through our application process that I thought I would check here to see if anyone has any inout or ideas on our situation.

My husband received his PR status in June of 2017 so we are still fairly early into the 3 years that I am to be financially responsible for him.

He has Epilepsy and over the course of the 4 years that he's been in Cananda, we have dealing with different doctors and specialists. They have decided that surgery is the next course of action. He will need at least 6 months off work to recover from brain surgery. This will obviously cause a lot of financial strain on our new family. We also have a 1.5 year old son.

Here are my questions:
He is not elligable for any financial aid (including medial EI from work-which he pays into) due to the spousal visa stipulations?

Can I as his sponsor apply for any financial aid-housing assistamce? Child care subsidy?
Will this void our visa in anyway? Will we be asked to pay anything back?

We both have medical coverage through our jobs..could this benefit us?
I understand this is exactly what the governemnt wants to avoid but the timing just worked out this way.

ANY advice input would be SO appreciated!
Sheena

EI is not social assistance. He's fine to take EI - he just can't take welfare. Medical coverage through his job is also not social assistance - it's a workplace benefit.

I believe you may need to stay away from housing assistance and this may be classified as social assistance as well - I'm sure others will comment.

Does anyone know IF and WHAT I could apply for that would help us in this situation?

You need to contact authorities in your province to see what you can qualify for that is not welfare.
