Hi,

I have received a research assistantship from a Canadian University to pursue a Ph.D. I am also interested in getting PR under FSW program.

1) In case I receive PR, can I sponsor my spouse while I am doing my Ph.D. and working as a research assistant? I am wondering if the research assistantship is considered as a government financial assistance.

2) Do I need to reside in Canada for 2 years to be eligible to sponsor my spouse?

Hi

1. No issue sponsoring your spouse. Government assistance = welfare.

2. No.
