I have a question I need some urgent help with. I am a Canadian Citizen living in the US. I have a US Citizen wife and we have a child. Things have happened way quicker than we planned and I am about to be offered a job in Calgary with my employer and need to figure out how she can come in to Canada with me in the next three months without the sponsorship process being complete. It is also important that she be able to get healthcare.

We have some friends that just made the same move in a similar situation, and his wife came in as a visitor and then they immediately changed her status when they got there. She was also able to get healthcare day one.

Has anyone done this?

Your friends must be VERY confused. Your wife can enter as a visitor and will remain a visitor until she lands as a Permanent Resident; she can't immediately change her status to anything else. I suggest you get the PR app together now and get it submitted before you leave for Canada, as that can make it easier on her when entering Canada.

Without PR, she doesn't have the right to move to Canada and should have no more than a few bags with her when she enters. If you guys are bringing all of your belongings, then it should be you bringing it. Your wife should travel separately, explaining that she is coming to visit her Canadian spouse while waiting for PR.

You will be able to add her to your AHCIP as your dependent.
