Hi all,

For some background info, I'm a US citizen and I plan on getting married in Canada (in about 6 months) to my Canadian fiancé. I am 18, not a student, do not hold a degree, and technically not a skilled worker. I have been trying to collect as much information about spousal sponsorship as possible to prepare for the following months. Everything has been straightforward except the process of obtaining some sort of work permit while I wait for the PR to go through, as I would really like to find work in Canada during this time. Applying for and OWP caught my attention, but it's still unclear to me if you can only apply for one if you submitted the PR inland (while I plan on submitting outland). If anyone has any suggestions, or can point me towards further reading it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Evan

It's only available for Inland, unfortunately.

Thanks for the quick response. Does this still apply to the International Mobility Program?

Yes - it still applies (it's the same thing). You only qualify for an open work permit if you apply inland (which is not recommended for Americans). No open work permit is available for outland applicants.

If you're a recent student you may qualify for SWAP working holiday/International Experience Canada. That's what I did my first year here.
