For spousal sponsorship, one has to establish:
- A mutual commitment to living together
- Couples are committed to each other's physical, emotional, financial and social interdependence such as shared shelter, sexual and personal behaviour (ex:living in the same roof during visits,...), services, social activities (visits, gifts, travel together...), economic support (money transfer), insurance beneficiary, children and the societal perception of the couple (the relationship is known to others)...
- The relationship develops and evolves naturally
- Marriage occurs in "good faith" (genuine, immigration is not the intention)
- The relationship is 2 way. Example: the sponsor does all the work for the relationship, the sponsored spouse contributes nothing or minimal to the relationship.
Now if you take a look at the application, you know why they ask some very specific questions about your relationship.
I collect these from the Federal and Supreme Court of Canada.
