Before we got married, my wife worked in the Middle East for 2 years. I told her to please get a police clearance before coming home for our marriage. Unfortunately, she did not remember to get the police clearance and we were unable to get the police clearance via post from the police headquaters in that country. So we got her a new passport in her new name, and applied for the spousal sponsorship without declaring she worked and lived in the Middle East for 2 yrs. During her interview, the visa officer shocked her.....she said "we have information that you worked as a sales girl in the Middle East". My wife was shocked, because they knew the type of job she did and even the particular country in the Middle East she worked in. She vehemently denied the claim. The next question was "is this your first passport"? My wife said yes, and the interviewer said she is not convinced at her answer. Next was "what phone number did you use to communicate with your husband prior to marriage"? My wife gave them her cell number, but the interviewer refused the number saying its an incorrect number. So to cut the story short, the embassy told her they would check with the government records (Passport office and immigration), and if they find out she has indeed worked outside the country, her application will be denied, but if she hasn't left the country before, her application will be accepted. Its been a month now since she interviewed and we have not gotten any response back from the embassy. What can we do??? Can a self confession to the embassy help at this moment? Has anyone been in a similar situation before? If so, what did you do?

So your spouse lied to the Visa officer at least 4 times, misrepresented herself, submitted false information. It is too late, to say "I lied to you before but now I will tell the truth" There is 99.9% chance that she is going to be refused for misrepresentation and banned for 2 years.

If honest mistakes are made, how is someone supposed to explain and actually be believed?

That was not an honest mistake. It was an intentional and calculated way to misrepresent themselves because they did not want to put in the effort to follow the process by getting a police clearance. even if the PCC was unobtainable (which I don't believe for a second) they could have truthfully represented her history on the application and then explained why they did not have the PCC. Going as far as applying for a new passport to deliberately cover her past goes way beyond an 'honest mistake'.

Original poster...you screwed up big time. Perhaps if she had come clean at the interview you may have had a shot, but at this point, I think PMM is being generous by saying you have a 99.9% chance of being denied. I would say it is 100%

I know she didn't have ill intent, and because of that I am sorry that you're in this situation.

It's this kind of misrepresentation that makes this process so much more difficult for those of us doing this honestly.

What else can be said other than she should not have lied.

Your wife lied more than once, deliberately. As has been pointed out, her lying makes it more difficult for the rest of us. I feel sorry for you, personally, but they absolutely should reject her.

Edited to add: actually I'm steaming about this. They should not only reject her and ban her from Canada, but charge her with fraud.

See that over there? That's my 100% legit beloved passport, stuck in customs for checks by three government departments because of all the lying cheaters out there dealing in fakes and forgeries.

So confusing as to why she would go through all of this just because she couldn't get a police certificate. You can always get a police certificate and in the case where you're unable to obtain one you would just have to explain the situation in a letter. This is a very costly mistake :(

I agree with everyone here. This is just the most disgusting story I have read on this forum.

No wonder poor candianwomen has a hard time, when there are people like this applying for immigration.

Yes, a 5 year ban from entering Canada sounds quite fair to me.

And thinking about it...does your wife have something to hide???

For someone to go to so much trouble hiding their association about being in the Middle East for 2 years throws up huge red flags to me.

This is exactly what I thought when I read his first post!
They acted as if she had something big to hide..

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how immigration would know about her working in the middle east?

wowoow, This is so so bad, why she lied , I do not know but she should told them in the interview

anyways this is not the case now , I Think Immigration not stuipd thid her old travel. so write them email, tell all the truth. nothing but true, and let a lawyer do it.

i do not know i am from middel east it is not hard to get police certificat at all, even through empassy unless you want to hid something , sorry but this what it look here .

WOW, one word "denied". Cutting corners and then lying...done... FYI, This forum isn't about helping people scwerm through the process by lying.

This is definitely the worst I have heard here. My wife and I's application is without a lie, and that confidence is a great feeling.

Im going to say things like that happen everyday, Some people omit information from their applications and get way with it whilst others dont. Its such a shame that you failed to follow instructions and obviously as I can imagine your wife was scared to admit that when the officer asked her. CIC does extensive background checks and the last thing you want to omit is a police clearance especially for a place she stayed for two years. Which of course is now the IOs word against hers. They will find out and she will be denied because they are not going to be satisfied that she is not a risk to Canada. To put the icing on the cake shes going to be inadmissible based on misrepresentation. If she has any questionable ties that cic would deem dangerous then of course she is going to be permanently barred for withholding material facts. As you make your bed, so shall you lie on it. Im assuming you did not think CIC would find out so you thought it was no biggie...newsflash...The visa is going to be denied and you will learn the hard way.

Sorry if I'm wrong...but a post like this one, from new member, 1st post...etc!

Maybe I'm wrong...but I can't believe this story is true.

In short it's "we lied, they know we lied and they will investigate...what can we do because we lied several times in interview to cover the original lie as well"

I mean, the story and the whole situation is eeee well.....bah whatever..... ???
