Hello.
I am a Canadian citizen and my husband is American. His original date of entry is February 2013. We sent in the permanent resident application in February of 2014. We are still 5 months out from them viewing our application.
My question is, do they make a preliminary decision in regards to the application? Also, typically are you required to do a medical check? Several months ago they asked us to send in a new set of background checks, does this mean they are already looking at our application?
Thank you

Medical examination is mandatory for all applicants (but not sponsors).

If you were asked for ANYTHING at all, that certainly means that they have looked at your application...right?
However, that doesn't mean that CIC is actually `working' on your application yet.

It's likely that you were asked for new background checks as part of their AOR stage, which is when they determine that your application packet was complete.

Good luck!
