Hi,

I got married on Feb, 2012, I sent my completed and full application to sponsor my husband on June 6, 2012. As per the CIC website it states they received my application on June 8, 2012 and I am aware it takes approx 26 months to process everything, but I hear cases of people who got married after me and they are expecting their husbands visa to arrive shortly.

It is almost one year since our marriage and approx 10 months since we have been apart and I have had to take a break from college to work and show income to CIC. I read a few posts here saying there is no need to provide income to sponsor your spouse but I was told by my lawyer you need to show atleast $12,000 a year to Immigration in order to show you can support them when they are here.

My question is, if I choose to stay in Pakistan for a couple of months, will it have any affect on my application?

We are 6 months into our application and I have already been approved as a sponsor. All it says on the CIC website is "Application Received" and when you click on it, it says "Application was received on June 8, 2012", "Medical reports received on June 8,2012".

And I forgot to add that I am a Canadian Citizen.

I am going to visit him in Jan/2013 and need an answer so I can delay my stay as long as I can.

(Any helpful tips would be appreciated in regards to my application, anything that has helped you guys with your applications)

Thanks,

Hello, you can visit him but I wouldnt advise staying with him until your case is finalized. If you were to do that- CIC could doubt your intentions on settling in Canada as a couple. Not a good idea.

I always keep changing my mind. First I wanted to visit in December but he said concentrate on education and attend the winter semester so then I added spring semester as well and wanted to do 2 more courses then I decided ill go in june. And now I figured 2 courses isnt that big of a deal .. ill go after my winter semester exams .. which is going to be about 25th ish april. So finally im gna go in april until end of august.

See Idk what to say to you. They say if you are a PR don't stay longer than 2-3 weeks and if you are a citizen you can stay up to a maximum 3 months. (im gna stay for 4 months anyways lol)

My friend went to her husband in april and came back end of december or start january and her husband came in about april may (ish) of 2012 so it really depends honestly. Looks like you are half way in your case already.
They also say stay with the partner really shows the relationship is "genuine" but for Pakistan, not for the whole process. Since people get PPR and try for the big companies in the middle east.

As a Canadian citizen, you can stay as long as you want outside of Canada, there is no rule. My partner and I stayed outside of Canada until the end of the process. The only thing is that you need to keep ties to Canada ( so either a letter from your employer stating that he is waiting for you at that date etc) so that CIC can see that you are coming back to Canada once the PR is approved. Keep your bank account, if you have decided to university, start applying etc, so CIC can see that you are serious about it.
Good luck,
Sweden
