I have read so many threads stating detail how its important for Pakistani spousal visa to have all the major functions from Mehndi, Barat to Walima thoroughly documented for application.

My query is I do understand this true for young people going through this traditional process but does a grown up couple over 45 still need to go through all these formal events or does one Nikkah ceremony will suffice. Also considering the couples parents are deceased and the lady in Pakistan is a divorcee with no child and pretty much independent.

Also the couple has a relationship history of over 10 years.

Ideally you want to complete all of the major functions. If you don't, there will be a risk the application will be refused. IRCC's perspective is that nikkah only does not constitute a full marriage. If you have lived together for at least one year continuously and are common law, then it may make sense to apply through common law sponsorship vs. marriage stream.

Is there a reason the marriage is only happening now despite being in a relationship for over 10 years? You want to avoid it looking like this is a marriage of convenience.

Thank you for the reply.
It has been more of a long distance relationship as the guy moved to Canada 10 years back and never went back during that time. So there were breakups and gaps now they have patched things up and decided to get married once the guy returns to Pakiatan.

I would do more than nikkah or it may look like a marriage of convenience. Especially if they effectively haven't seen each other in person over the last 10 years. They should definitely not get married during the first trip either.
