Hey Guys:

Me and my husband are BOTH international students in Canada for the past 3 years, but now I want to apply for an open work permit because he is still a full time student. To what I have learned from CIC.GC.CA:

Help your spouse or common-law partner work in Canada

Your spouse or common-law partner may apply for a work permit if:
•you are a full-time student at
•you have a valid study permit

But I just got a message back from CIC saying I am not eligiable for this application. Please help. I have provided everything they have asked ( marriage certificate, forms, bank statement, valid study permit, school letter and transcript) but why is this happening ?

Anyone had same experiences?

Thanks

1) Does your spouse fits under the following requirements?
- a public post-secondary institution, such as a college or university or collège d’enseignement général et professionnel (CEGEP) in Quebec
- a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as a public institution, and receives at least 50 percent of its financing for its overall operations from government grants (currently, only private college-level educational institutions in Quebec qualify) or
- a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees

2) Did CIC provide any reason for refusal?

3) You spouse may call CIC, provide his client id and ask for details.

You said you both are international students since 3 years, then why do you want to apply for OWP? ::) Don't you have an option to apply for PGWP? :o

We started as ESL students and both of us are in University now, I will be another year for us to apply for post grad wp and I just want to work instead of paying too much money for school :( sadly, CIC didnt approve our case and I dont know why.
