We are just about done collecting everything, I'm wondering what's the best thing to mail them in? I was thinking a small 3 ring binder, is that acceptable? Should we include a legend or just have the document checklist at the front? We're applying inland btw, were in Toronto.

No - don't use binders (this is specifically mentioned in the guide). The papers should be loose. If you want to keep them together for mailing - put an elastic band around them that can easily be removed once it arrives.

Do NOT punch holes in the papers in order to put them in a binder. This sounds like a bad idea.

The best way to join groups of paper together is by paper clips (app actually mentions clips are ok), so the VO can easily sort your papers as needed. The whole package can just go in any envelope that fits, or small box if you have too many pages.

I included a simple legend/table of contents with mine that listed the main things i was including (i.e. an itemized list of the proofs of relationship i included), but this is not required.

Silly question, can we put those papers in a clear protective sheet? And then in a large envelope with them clipped together?

I would stay away from the protective sheets. As soon as your application is opened, the visa officer will have to sit there and pull all of the paper out of the protective sheets. So once again, you're just creating a make-work project for the person who is going to be handling your application.

Another question, on the receipt who's information should I fill in, my husband who's the applicant or me as the sponsor? It also asks for a client ID, what should I put there?

We filled in my info (sponsor) since it was my credit card used. But i don't think it matters.

You can leave the client ID blank, as this number doesn't exist yet. They'll assign you an ID number after they start to process the sponsor evaluation.

My husband has a client ID already because he is a failed refugee, should we put that number or wait for them to assign us a new number?

We really appreciate all the answers :)

If he has been given a UCI by CIC, then you can include it, because it's the same for all dealings with CIC. If you don't include it, they will find it anyway, so if you have it already, just include it.
Good luck for your application!
