Our application is currently in Stage 2 (i.e. processing my wife's part of the Application at the regional visa office) and they are performing background checks right now. Does anybody know how far we are into the process and how much longer we have to wait? Where does a background check stand on the process timeline?

Thanks!

it's a bit difficult to say because it depends on your VO, and your country of origin, but also your own background. If you were in the military then it might take a little longer. You could order your CAIPS note to understand a bit more where your application is...
Good luck,

Thanks Sweden. I'm mainly looking for an estimate, or even an idea on how far we are into the process. Like, where does background checking stand on the overall timeline? For instance, out of 10 steps is it the 5th step? 7th? 9th? I assume there's a standard timeline for all visa offices, am I right?

Also I'm assuming it's my wife whose background is being checked? I haven't served in military, and we both have very clean backgrounds with no political or social activities.

Cheers!

Sorry - didn't see your answer earlier!

The sponsor background is checked at the first stage (in Canada), then indeed it's the applicant that is checked... if your wife is the applicant and she has not travelled much, then it should be quick.

I have no idea where it stands on the timeline, as it also really depends on your wife's nationality and where she has lived, if the Canadian government has to contact other countries it will take longer.

Good luck,
Sweden
