Hello everyone,

this is my first post, so first...hello to everybody on this forum! :)

I have a question for all of you who knows something or had made the decision. I am 28 years old, my wife 29, and we are from Bosnia & Hercegovina. We want to migrate to Canada but we have some questions which I hope can be answered here. I sent an email to the embassy long time ago but still no answer.

I just would like to know...can I immigrate, work and study in Canada if I apply via Sponsorship (I have relatives there) or via the "Skilled workers and professionals" way (my wife has enough points for applying)?

I mean...do I have to live in Canada many years before I can go to an University or can I do that as soon as I get a job?

Thanks in advance, I hope I get an answer,
Ajdin

Hello,

the embassy will not help you immigrate. You have to figure it out yourself from the CIC website if there is an immigration class you qualify for or hire a consultant who will do it for you.

If you look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp you see that the skilled worker class is only for those who have a job offer or for PhD students and apart from that, it is closed right now as they are changing the program. You will have to wait until January to see what the changes are and if you still qualify.

Your family can most likely not sponsor you although it is possible if they are relatively close like uncle, aunt, first cousin, niece nephew, brother, sister and they live in Manitoba or Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan now also requires sponsored family members to have a job offer.

You and your wife can also look into Quebec skilled worker. It is not necessary there to have a job offer but it really helps if you speak French.

Thank you very much for your fast answer. I guess I can forget about Sponsorship 'cause we're both over 18 years old and my family is an aunt and uncle, right?

If I may just ask you one more question? If I enter Canada with a Tourist visa, and find there a job or an written job offer, is it then possible to get the papers for a Working visa right there in Canada in an Immigration office and then stay there to work, or do I have to return to my home country and apply again for a working visa?

Thank you one more time for your help... :)

If the employer gets a labour market opinion for you, you can apply at the US border if you are visa exempt to Canada. That is, you go to the border, cross to the US and cross back. If you are not visa exempt, you must leave Canada to apply. Be aware that the process of getting an LMO can take some time so even if you could stay, it might not be wise to hang around for it because you are using up money while unable to work. That is unless your aunt and uncle are willing to support you.
