Hi all
i was refugee and rejected. I got married 6 months ago. My wife and i did the sponsorship application couple months ago . I received welfare for the past 2 years and continuing taking welfare,. if i continue to taking the welfare Would it affect my sponsorship application?
Thanks for the answers.

If you are still on welfare your application will be rejected.2 rules of sponsorship
1) you can not be on welfare
2) you can not be going through bankruptcy.

If you claimed refugee status and were rejected, how are you still in Canada collecting welfare today???

I would expect that your wife will be more closely examined than the typical sponsor to ensure she can in fact support you once you have landed. Does she currently have a job? If not - I would expect there may be problems in securing sponsorship approval.

You will also need to get off welfare before you become a PR. If you continue to stay on welfare after you become a PR, you (or more specifically, your wife) will have to pay this money back to the government.

Did you tell the welfare people you got married? When a couple lives together, their eligibility for welfare is assessed as a couple. If the applicant is on welfare, it should only be because the combined incomes of the wife and husband are low enough for welfare. In other words, it would seem your wife is on welfare too and so can't sponsor you.
