I am a canadian citizen, sponsoring my husband (applicant)who is an Indian national living and working in Saudi Arabia. We got married in Dec and I am staying with him in Riyadh. We selected New Delhi as our visa office. Processing time is 6 months for New Delhi. Just wondering how long it would take us, since my husband is outside India. Also, how long does the New delhi VO take to issue the visa once it receives the passport?

Also, any suggestions or tips to expedite our process?

Keep 6 months in mind but it could take longer too. Plus in some cases even though you have selected the New Delhi office they will transfer the file to Abu Dhabi. I applied through Abu Dhabi and their processing time was at that time last year Oct 11 was 27 months but it took my case 7 months so you can not predict exactly to how long each case might take....

Just send as much proofs as you can to show them that you have a strong relation with your partner. Also just a tip they might ask you to cancel your gulf residency before issuing your husband the PR visa as it has happened in my case.

You do realize that New Delhi will request his passport as soon as they receive his file from CPC-M and that it is illegal for him to send the passport internationally via courier? Furthermore, as your husband must be in India to submit his passport, he cannot return to Saudi Arabia until he gets it back with the visa? That can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months, or maybe even more, depending on the circumstances of your file. Additionally, CIC may decide to send the file to Abu Dhabi, since the Gulf states have strict residency rules and he will be required to provide proof he has quit his job, that his employer has accepted his resignation and that he has cancelled his work/residency visa before they issue his Canadian visa.

Ya I realize that he will have to cancel his residency etc. and we are prepared for that.
He is also willing to quit his job and go to India and submit his passport and wait there for a month or so to get his Canadian visa.
However, after reading your post, I am concerned now that you said it could 2-6 months. Does that mean he has to wait up to 6 months to get a visa issued??? wouldn't New Delhi already get the processing done from Abu Dhabi etc and confirm that everything is clear and then only request for the passport??
If they send the file to Abu Dhabi, should I add extra time to the the current 6 months processing time of New Delhi???

I am so confused now. What is to be done now if New Delhi requests the passport at an early stage before looking at the application and before sending the file to Abu Dhabi(if needed).??

This is the biggest problem with going through Delhi - if you reside outside India, then you have to figure out how to safely and legally get your pasport to the visa office there, since international mail and courier options are forbidden. Some people have asked family friends to carry it for them from their country of residence to India. But then if the applicant is called to an interview, they'll have to get their passport back from Delhi in order to travel to India. I know, this is crazy.

If your husband decides to go to India himself, he could well be waiting up to 6 months (or more if the case is complicated) before his visa is issued. You can try asking that they not request his passport until they've decided whether to issue his visa, but this is a low success option to be frank. Others have tried as recently as April and got no response from Delhi. Very sorry, but this is not going to be an easy problem to resolve.

On a positive note, it will be either Delhi or Abu Dhabi who will do the stage 2 assessment, not both.

Hmm ya this definitely is frustrating.
Once New Delhi requests the passport, how much time do we have to get the passport to them?
So far, we have only sent the medical and we chose New Delhi on the medical. we did not mail out the application to CPC-M yet. so is there anything we can do now..like should we change the VO to Abu Dhabi?
And if we do that, how about our medical? Do we redo that?

If you would like to change the VO, then write an explanation letter about the medical and attach it with your application to CIC-M. Tell them you sent your medical to ND. Describe your current situation why you are changing the visa office.
