Hello.
I am sponsoring my husband from Saudi Arabia(Indian national). We got recently married in December. I am currently residing with him in Saudi Arabia. We are submitting our application next week.
I had a few questions before I submit. I have to provide proof of re-establishment in Canada once my husband gets his visa that we have plans to live in Canad and not else where. Do you have any suggestions on how I can prove this. I will be living in my old condo with my brother who is a Canadian citizen currently living and working there. The condo is owned by my parents and I am thinking of getting a letter from my father saying that he has no objection in me and my spouse living there.
I am also planning on contacting my old employer and requesting her to re hire me once I get back. She will most probably give me a letter for a job offer. Will a scanned copy of this document suffice or should I have to attach the original?
Also for financial stability purpose when I get back, can my brother provide a letter saying that in future if needed he could support us financially? Will this letter require any sort of attestation from a Canadian govt. office and how do I go about getting this done?
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!!

1. Letter from your parents regarding your accommodations would be good.
2. Scanned copy of the job offer letter will suffice.
3. No, you don't need the letter attested.

Any other proof of savings or other funds would be good to attach. Additionally, there are special conditions you will be required to fulfill, such as cancelling you residency visa in KSA and resigning from jobs and showing proof this has been accepted by your employers but the embassy will instruct you further on this when they finalize the application.

I am in a similar situation like yours. My wife is sponsoring me and we both are living together in Kuwait. We got married in July 2010 but my immigration was applied in Oct 2011.

You will need to provide proof that you are planning to move to Canada once your husband gets the PR visa. They could even ask him to cancel yours and his gcc residency as part of the proof.

In our case we stated that my wife will be working in her fathers business once she moves back and I got a job offer letter from there too. We also mentioned that we will be staying together with her family once we move back in their family house and since we have a baby now we would like him to be raised in a multicultural society.

Even after all these documents and hundreds of pics I was still sent a questionnaire to fill out that asked me if my wife has paid her taxes , she has any bank accounts there, her job resignation letter, what preparations have we done to move back since we have applied and mentioning at every place that I will need to cancel my wife's residency before a visa is issued to me.

I did provide them with a lot of proofs but if at the end it comes up to me cancelling her residency and sending her back then I will have no other choice but to do that.

You can provide them with scanned copies of all your documents. No need to attest any documents unless asked. Ask your brother to write you a letter saying that he will support you once you and your husband lands there till you get a job. A job offer letter from your previous job would help too. The more proofs you provide the better.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the responses. That really helps!

I just noticed that my husband has an option of selecting one of two visa offices for his file processing
- country of nationality, or
- the country in which you are residing, provided that you have been lawfully admitted to that country for at least one year.

since he is an Indian national, the application processing time for that is 6 months
while that of our current country(Saudi Arabia) is 26 months.
So, would you suggest that I select India as the visa office? Would this pose a problem if he is scheduled for an interview or something if I do not select Abu Dhabi as our office?
Also, once his visa is issued, where and how would he have to send his passport to get the visa? Will I have to send it to the local canadian embassy in Saudi Arabia?

If you select India as your processing office. All your documentations, interviews and even sending of your passport will be done through them. It wont cause any issue.

The choice is yours which office you would like to choose. There are many cases in which Abu Dhabi applicants have got their visas in less than a year.

Ok thats great. We will send the file through the Indian VO.

Below is the procedure to obtain police clearance in Saudi Arabia:

If you are applying at the Canadian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE, you should submit the police certificate with your application. You can contact the visa office for a request letter at fax: (971 2) 694-0396 or e-mail: abu-dhabi-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca Please include your immigration file number if you have one.

For applications being processed at any other office, request letters may be obtained by e‑mail: riyadh.visa@international.gc.ca or fax: 966-1-488-9657. Please include the file number, the office where you applied and your mailing address

Since we were thinking of going through Abu Dhabi VO earlier, Abu Dhabi sent us a request letter in order to obtain a police clearance from Saudi Arabia which we are getting tomorrow.

Now that we are thinking of changing the VO, will it be a problem that we got the request letter from Abu Dhabi and not from the local Canadian embassy in Riyadh?

No that won't be a problem. Whichever VO you apply through your husband will need to send his police clearance certificate of all the places he has resided at in the last 10 years.

I am stuck on three questions: If anyone can help me out:

1.On IM 1344 it asks for my(sponsor's) UCI/Client ID?
I have a client ID from when I had applied for my citizenship with CIC.
Should i put that in here? or will they give me a new ID since this is my first application for sponsorship purpose?

2. I came to Saudi last year for the purpose of marriage and now applying for sponsorship for my husband. I am planning to move with him when he gets his pr.
the immigration form asks "if i am canadian living exclusively outside Canada"? do i answer that as a yes or no?

3.IMM 5540 Q.8 asks me if i have resided any countries other Canada? it does not give me a time frame like 5 or 10 years. so how far back should i go to answer this question?

1. Use the same one, you won't get a new one.
2. If you are visiting with your spouse, in other words you are not on a residency or work permit in the other country, then you are not residing exclusively outside Canada.
3. As far back as you need to, there is no time period because they want to know everywhere you've ever lived besides Canada.

Thanks!
I have a residency permit in Riyadh under my father's sponsorship. I have always had it since I visit my parents here every year. Now, does it mean I am residing exclusively outside? Sorry, just confused and dont want to make a mistake on this question, so I am just re checking.

Do you work? Or study? Where is your life centralized? If you have only temporal ties to Canada like a lease, credit cards and a health card, but you spend all your time in Saudi Arabia, your whole family is there, and that is where your financial, physical and emotional life is centred, then yes is the answer, you reside exclusively outside Canada.

I am not working or studying here. I came here to get married and it took me a year. Now I am married and living with my husband in Riyadh and since I have completed my purpose, I want to return as soon as possible to my home in toronto. Does this count as exclusively outside since I came here only on a purpose?

If you intend to leave as soon as possible, then no, you are not residing exclusively outside Canada.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions it reduces my confusion :) :) :),

I am a canadian citizen, sponsoring my husband (applicant)who is an Indian national living and working in Saudi Arabia. We got married in Dec and I am staying with him in Riyadh. We selected New Delhi as our visa office. Processing time is 6 months for New Delhi. Just wondering how long it would take us, since my husband is outside India. Also, how long does the New delhi VO take to issue the visa once it receives the passport?

Also, any suggestions or tips to expedite our process?
