Hey all

Can anyone please help?? I applied for my PR through common law with my partner over a month ago and also the OWP. (applied Inland) My visa expiries mid july, which means my OHIP does aswell. I am stressing out so much as i am 14 weeks pregnant aswell! Is there anything i can do to re new my Ohip, as i dont have a letter for immigration yet because my file hasnt even been touched yet (well i dont think it has because i cant link my application online yet, is that normal??)

Any help would be great. Please and thank you.

What kind of visa/permit do you hold now?

Unfortunately the inland app does not make you eligible for OHIP until after stage 1 approval which can take many months.

After you get the OWP (usually 4 months from submitting app) you must be working full time to get OHIP coverage:
are in Ontario on a valid work permit and are working full-time in Ontario, for an Ontario employer, for at least six months

This means you'd need a letter from employer stating your full time work status.

Hey

Thank you for your reply! I have the 2 year IEC visa which expiries now on the 16th july

I have a full time job with the same employer since i landed in Canada! Im working for them 2 years this august.

I can get a letter from them no problem! Its just a waiting game then really until some sort of visa comes then, i guess???

You need to hope/wish/pray that your OWP arrives before July 16th then. Since IEC is non-extendable, you will need to stop working and will lose OHIP after July 16th.

If your OWP arrives by July 16th, then with an employment letter you should be able to get new OHIP coverage based on the OWP.

And hopefully you have inland stage 1 approval in time for when you stop working due to late pregnancy, so can then get OHIP based on this for delivery and follow up care.

What i'm not sure of, is if OHIP will demand new 3-month waiting periods each time you jump to new OHIP coverage.

I assume you didn't take the medical exam yet? As you know it's not recommended for pregnant women to take the x-ray portion of medical, which would delay your PR approval until after you give birth.

I must check my visa, (which one i have) i know its a two year work visa and i think because i applied for my extension on my visa before it expiries that i can keep working until a decision is made?? I will look into this.

No i wont do any xrays or medicals until after birth, i dont mind the delay on the PR. Im just really worried about health coverage here now, and i cant even go home because i will lose my status altogether!

The joys of trying to start in Canada

No, if you're referring to inland PR app you did not apply for an extension you applied for an entirely new class of OWP based on your PR app.

IECs are non-extendable, so don't qualify from "implied" status to continue working after they expire.

Is it your 2-years that is coming up in July? Or is that end of your first year and you've applied for 2nd year?

I sent my extension for the OWP and change of conditions on my visa to alberta separately!

I sent the PR in first though, then separately applying for the change!
Just checked i have a 2 year work visa, not IEC sorry.

My two years are up 16th july

I don't understand, what kind of 2-year work visa do you have? Through LMIA or NAFTA?

Again the OWP you are eligible for with inland PR app, is separate from everything else and needs to be linked to your PR app on it's own. It's not an extension of any other visa you may have.

So hopefully whatever visa you currently hold is extendable on it's own, separate from the PR app. Else there is a good chance it will be rejected.
