Hi I am very confused about implied status and continuing to work in canada. I am now married and my husband applied to sponsor me and the extension of my work permit before it expired while I was working. The job I was working at went bankrupt and I applied to several jobs after that. I just received employment from one of the jobs that I applied for and at the time I applied for it my work prmit was valid. Now that it expires and I am required to bring my SIN card to the job how do I prove that I have an implied status to this employer. Do I have implied status, Am I allowed to work with the employer?

How did your husband sponsor you? Inland? Outland?

What kind of work permit did you have before it expired?

You don't have implied status and you can't work. Your work permit was for a specific company, if you had applied for an extension of your work permit for that company. You could have continued to work, until you got a response from CIC. In your case, the company/job no longer exists, so any other job at a new company requires a new LMO and a new work permit. (Unless you on an open work permit, which you would know if you are)

thanks for responding so quickly. My husband sponsored me inland and the work permit expired on August 31. We applied for the extention of my work permit in july and my work permit wasn't for a specific employer because it states I am a allowed to work for any employer and thats what I did. I applied for work and got a job and after it went bankrupt I started to apply for another job. Now i thought implied status applied to someone who applied for extension before their current status expired, which I did. So what kind of status do I have now and since my work permit wasn't limited to one employer what happens now?

If you have an open work permit (i.e. permit that allows you to work for any employer) - how did you qualify for that open work permit originally? Open work permits are only granted in very specific circumstances.
