Hi there,

I might lose my job due to organizational reorganization. Anyways, my boss is trying to save my place, but nothing is guaranteed. I was approved to be a sponsor last november, but will it cause any problems if I receive employment insurance until I find a new job (without going on welfare)?

Thank you

E.I. is fine. No worries.

Employment insurance is fine. It is not considered to be welfare.

thank you,

Hopefully I won't need to do the papers to receive it..seems complicated as hell....

My hubby was put on EI sick benefits at the end of our immigration process and never got asked any questions. Went through smoothly.
As stated EI is something you pay into so you have a right to it when you are eligible for it or it is needed. Its not considered social assistance or welfare unless the government is paying you. (Except disability you're still eligible then). So EI is your own money deposited from your pay, you're still fine. :)
