Sponsoring Spouse from USA (Outside Canada)

Hi everybody, I'm new on here so I don't know what the norm is and what is not. When I first applied for immigration for my wife, it looked like the whole process (including step 1) would take 6-12 months. Now I find that it takes 3 months for step 1 and up to 12 months for step 2.

We received Step 1 approval on Sept 18/2012.
My wife's medical results have been submitted and received, all fees paid, and all other required documentation is in.

Has anybody gone through this process for Spouse from USA recently?

Please let me know how long yours took and what I should expect.
