I am a Canadian citizen and I have resided in Canada for 12 years. The traditional marriage has been done in Nigeria, the official wedding is this June. How can I sponsor my wife to Canada?

Thank you for your time, looking forward to some ideas or tips.

Does she have a visa to enter Canada? If so she can join you here and you can apply inland. Or if she wants to wait in Nigeria / come and go while it's being processed, you can apply outland. Each takes around a year I believe. Outland I think the applications are processed in Ghana. There's a thread for people going through the same process on here.

Best start is to download the country specific checklist for Nigeria from the CIC website and start collating the documents you'll need.

Good luck

Is the traditional marriage legally recognized? If not, you need to wait for the legal wedding to sponsor her.

Than you for the information. The traditional marriage is not legally recognised, the white wedding is. Can I apply for a visiting visa for her at the same time that I apply to sponsor her?

A TRV application is separate from a sponsorship application. She can apply whenever she wants but with a Canadian partner, her chances of approval are low.
