Hello

I'm a permanent Canadian citizen and about to apply for a spousal sponsorship for Canada for my future husband. We currently life in Switzerland, but would like to move do Canada fall next year

We are currently engaged and will get married on January 11th 2019.

My future husband has four grown up and non dependent children, who will not apply for sponsorship with us now nor in the future.

Can you please inform me, if we still have to include all four children of my future husband in our application with paper work as police report and medical exam?

Unfortunately I was not able to find this information on the Immigration website.

I thank you for your help and reply in advance.

The basic guide has the information, search for the definition of dependent child:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...nsor-your-spouse-partner-child.html#dependent

In brief, if they are all over 22 or married (have a spouse or common-law partner), then you do not need to include their info or do the checks.

(Note: over 22 can be dependent if some physical or mental condition).

Note: you must not leave off dependent children even if they do not intend to immigrate - I presume this would apply to older children who are dependent.

I don't consider myself an expert, please do check with others and read for yourself, I'm just repeating what seems clear to me from the basic guide.

They will need to be listed as family members but are not included as part of the application, assuming that your assessment of their non-dependent status is correct. Therefore, no medical or background checks are required for them.

A key point is that the guide (link above) and the form say that you only include dependent children on the application form.

Where does one "list them as family members" if not on the main application form?

Additional Family Information [IMM 5406] which is a mandatory part of the application kit.

Step 3. Fill out the forms
Use your checklist to prepare the forms.

The last page of your checklist includes a list of all signatures that are required for each person included on the application. If any requested forms are not fully completed and signed (if applicable), or not included in the application package, your application will not be accepted for processing and will be returned to you.

Note: If you are less than 18 years of age, your form(s) must be signed by one of your parents or a legal guardian.

Thank you. So complete answer for the original poster is: dependent children (all, regardless of whether intending to immigrate) go on the main application form, all children including non-dependents go on the additional information form. (My mistake on that additional info form)

Police certificates and medical, etc., should not be needed for non-dependents (not applying).

The sponsor must fill out and sign (if applicable) these forms:
A question that I suspect is off-base: if one is sponsoring one's spouse and dependent children (i.e. children of the spouse, whether the sponsor's children or not), IMM5481 does not apply? I assume it only applies if sponsoring just children, without spouse, but sometimes these instructions seem unclear when you read them a second time.

Just to double-check for another aspect: you've lived with your future husband for more than 1 year? Otherwise you cannot apply to sponsor a "future" spouse. You need to be common-law if you're not married.
