Hi everyone,

I am really looking forward if someone can suggest me on this. I recently got married in october 2017 and cane back to canada in december. I have applied for number of jobs but not able to get one. And i want to file my husband papers. So is it important to have a job and job letter in order to sponsar my spouse?

Assuming you are a Canadian citizen or PR, It isn’t required to have a Job, but you must show adequate finances to support the both of you when he comes to Canada. They don’t want him coming to Canada and then have you claim social assistance (which you would have to pay back anything he collected from the government).

Thank you for your reply. I worked last year till august , i can collect T4 and will file my taxes now in april, and can show my bank statement as well. So if i am not having a job would that make my case weaker because cic can understand its only been a month i cane back and its not easy to get a job.

Provided you can show you have financial resources (savings, investments, family assistance, your income potential, spouse's income/income potential etc.) to support yourselves without welfare, you'll be fine.
