Hello Dear Members,
First of all i would like to thank you all for efforts you make to provide solutions to people's problems. I have this strange situation .

I am a permanent resident of Canada and currently well employed. I want to get married to my girl friend from another country and bring her to Canada as a permanent resident. However, I have my mother back home and also want to bring her as a permanent resident to Canada. Can I bring both the members, my girl friend on a spouse visa and my mother on humanitarian grounds, because besides in home country there is no other relative to take care of her and her only son is living in Canada. Is there any issue in submitting both the applications simultaneously. My mother is currently in Canada on a visitor visa which expires in September and I want to get married to my girl friend in a month.

Please guide me . Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If you meet LICO (Low Income Cutoff), I don't see a problem.

What is the LICO ? Can you please elaborate ?

You need to show that you can support your own family and your mother in order to sponsor her. You can see the LICO table at the following website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/applications/guides/5196E10.asp

So for a family of 3, yourself, your to be wife and your mom, you have to be making an income of $34,022 per year.

However, sponsoring mom is not going to happen fast. Depending where she is, currently it can take 45 months to approve you as a sponsor, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp and after that, it goes to her home country, you can see processing times here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-parents.asp

Thank you Steaky for your response. However, can I sponsor my mother from Canada since she is currently staying in Canada.

Currently, family sponsorship for parents is taking up to 5 years or more. So unfortunately, your Mother will have to return to her Country and wait it out.

Not sure what Country your girl friend comes from but again, sponsorship can take from 6 months to 2 years for a spousal visa.

Getting a PR for Canada is getting harder and stricter, so make sure you read and research as much as possible and have solid sound proofs of relationships.

Good Luck.

you can start the process while she is in canada, but it isn't like spousal where there's an inland and an outland track.. I believe it's all essentially considered an outland process...

and i don't believe that there is an obligation to the visa officers to extend her visa beyond it's expiry simply because you have an applicaton pending... any extensions to her current visa will likely be judged based on their individual merit and i highly doubt she'd be allowed to remain legally throughout the duration of the applicaiton processing... stranger things may have happened tho?

Thank you all for your response. However, I read that if you apply for permanent residence from within Canada then till the time decision is made you may not leave the country. Can you please elaborate on that ?

that is for inland spousal applications only
